PCD milling cutter
Efficiency package for aluminum and ISO N
With the MP060, MP160 and MP260 face, corner and slot milling cutters with brazed PCD cutting edges, Walter is presenting a product range for machining aluminum, Al-Si alloys, magnesium and magnesium alloys as well as for plastics and fibre composite materials.
The face milling cutter MP060 with a high number of teeth (z) 10-22, from Ø 40 mm is used for roughing and finishing large surfaces and flat shoulders. The MP160 (z = 3-4) and MP260 (z = 2-3) corner and slot milling cutters with a straight shank or ScrewFit holder and Ø 16-40 mm or 4-20 mm are suitable for smaller flat surfaces, for facing (MP260) and full slots as well as (limited in the case of the MP160) for ramping, drilling and boring operations. All three milling cutters are designed with internal cooling and can be used with both emulsion and MQL.
The milling cutters have decisive advantages, particularly in terms of tool life, surface quality produced and cost-effectiveness. The significantly longer tool life compared to solid carbide tools is due to the internal cooling, the wear-resistant Walter grade WDN20, reduced cutting forces and low-vibration micro-geometry. The precise machining enables high surface qualities. The cost-effectiveness of the milling cutters results from very high cutting speeds and the resulting shorter machining times. Added to this are the relatively low cutting material costs, reduced tool changes due to the longer tool life and the reconditioning capability of the milling cutters (from Ø 6 mm), which also increases the tool life. Walter sees the greatest potential for the milling cutters in general mechanical engineering and in the automotive industry, for example when milling over smaller surfaces of aluminum components, as well as for ISO N components, for example made of magnesium, in the electronics industry.
