Trumpf and IPAI Are Expanding a European AI Network for Industry

Artificial intelligence is transforming industrial manufacturing. But turning technology into concrete applications requires more than just individual solutions: it requires dialogue, experience, and networks. This is precisely where the new partnership between the high-tech company Trumpf and the AI network IPAI in Heilbronn comes in.

Since mid-July 2026, Trumpf has been an official partner of the IPAI (Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence). The AI network brings together companies, research institutions, and AI experts to advance the development and application of artificial intelligence. For Trumpf, this collaboration represents another step toward expanding its own European network of companies, research institutions, and AI expertise.

New Areas of Application for AI in Industrial Practice

The goal of the partnership is to exchange experiences, tap into new areas of application for artificial intelligence, and accelerate innovation for industrial practice. Trumpf contributes its many years of industrial experience, while the IPAI provides the infrastructure and ecosystem for AI development. This also includes opportunities to further develop software using generative AI.

“AI transformation is a challenge that companies should tackle together. The technology is evolving too quickly and the learning curve is steep—every bit of experience we share with one another counts. The IPAI creates a space for exchange among AI experts, joint projects across company boundaries, and an ecosystem that attracts talent. For Trumpf, this is the right place to be part of a European AI community that makes faster progress together,” says Sarah Engel, Head of AI at Trumpf.

For IPAI, too, the partnership represents an expansion of its industrial network. Moritz Gräter, CEO of IPAI, sees Trumpf as an important partner in bridging the gap between AI research and industrial applications:

“With Trumpf, we are welcoming a true pioneer in industrial manufacturing to our ecosystem. Trumpf’s deep expertise in sheet metal processing and laser technology impressively demonstrates how AI can be applied in industry in a practical and responsible manner. Together, we are joining forces to bring technological excellence to concrete applications even faster, thereby ensuring the long-term competitiveness of European industry.”

Exchange Across Organizational Boundaries

A key component of this collaboration is access to international AI forums spanning various disciplines. There, Trumpf’s experts can exchange ideas with colleagues and learn from one another—for example, when developing modern software solutions using generative AI.

In addition, the IPAI offers real-world testing facilities where AI-based solutions can be tested and further developed under real-world conditions. Trumpf intends to take advantage of these opportunities to, among other things, train robots to perform complex handling tasks in sheet metal manufacturing.

This is not just about technological development in the lab, but about how AI can be applied in industrial practice. In manufacturing in particular, there are numerous areas of application where intelligent systems can support processes, improve quality, or create new opportunities for automation.

AI Applications Already in Use

Trumpf already offers a variety of AI solutions for manufacturing that are available on the market. One example is the “SortMaster-Vision.” This solution for sheet metal fabrication uses an AI-based robot that automatically sorts components and assigns them to the appropriate order.

Another example is “VisionLine Inspect.” This technology can be used to inspect the quality of welds, for example in electric vehicle applications.

Through its partnership with IPAI, Trumpf aims to further advance this development and strengthen collaboration within the European AI community. The goal is to combine industrial experience and AI expertise in a way that turns technological possibilities into concrete solutions for manufacturing.
