Controlled thermomechanical treatment

Steeltec has applied Xtreme Performance (XTP) Technology to one of its special steels for the first time. The high-strength ETG 25 is a tried-and-tested steel product from the bright steel manufacturer which, according to the company, is well suited to cold forming. The controlled thermomechanical XTP treatment can extremely increase the toughness - from the original 30 J to over 150 J at room temperature. The transition temperature can be shifted down to the -80 °C range.

Controlled thermomechanical treatment

According to the manufacturer, the use of this special steel enables users to achieve increased quality and performance, especially for highly stressed components. In its standard version, the cold heading steel has mechanical values similar to those of strength class 8.8 without the need for additional heat treatment. Other properties include very good cold forming, bending and welding properties as well as high fatigue strength and good machinability. If a strength comparable to that of the series product (900 MPa) is required, the toughness can be increased to 150 J. The transition temperature is -80 °C. The cold forming of the XTP version allows high degrees of forming without cracks forming on the workpiece. Even components with complex shapes can be manufactured precisely in this way. sw
