Drilling tools for up to four operations

Sandvik Coromant introduces its CoroBore BC (Boring Combination) product offering, which includes customized step tools for high volume applications. The solutions allow different operations such as pre-finishing and chamfering to be performed with a single tool. This benefits manufacturing companies in the automotive and general engineering sectors as well as manufacturers of construction machinery.

With CoroBore BC, Sandvik Coromant offers an alternative when standard tools do not meet the specific requirements and a special tool is out of the question due to cost and delivery time. An online program automatically creates the tool and outputs the price and delivery information - this speeds up the process. An employee goes through the required parameters with the customer and the system immediately creates the tool design.

Due to the extensive CoroBore BC options, a variety of multi-stage boring applications can be performed. In fact, customers can select up to four operations (maximum two cutting edges per operation) on a customized tool. Diameters range from 20 to 200 mm and tool lengths can be up to 400 mm, depending on coupling size. Available couplings are Coromant Capto, HSK Form A and ISO 9766 as well as ISO, Mas-BT and Cat-V taper couplings. The large selection of supported coupling variants and sizes generally enables direct integration into the machine interface so that no separate basic holder needs to be used.

CoroBore BC uses the CoroBore insert holders as insert holders. Compared to fixed insert seats, this configuration makes it easy to change the insert holder. As standard stock items, both the indexable insert and the insert holders can be replaced at short notice. The insert holder types are available with three different degrees of adjustment: radially and axially adjustable, only axially adjustable and non-adjustable. All installation holder types are equipped with high-precision coolant nozzles that enable a coolant pressure of up to 80 bar - a unique advantage for customized and multi-stage boring tools.

In addition to the standard ISO inserts, CoroBore BC boring tools can be equipped with CoroBore 111 inserts with optimized grade selection for medium and roughing applications. Overall, Sandvik Coromant's indexable insert program offers productive geometries and grades for all types of materials and drilling applications.
