Diamond coating for indexable inserts

Diamond coatings can also be used for indexable inserts. Diamond-coated tools are particularly suitable for machining CFRP and GFRP, graphite, non-ferrous metals and plastic.

Three multilayer diamond coatings from CemeCon are used here: CCDia CarbonSpeed (image) for graphite as well as carbide and ceramic green compacts, CCDia FiberSpeed for fiber-reinforced plastics and CCDia MultiSpeed for AlSi alloys and composites.

Particularly positive insert geometries with a bore can be coated with diamond. The chip shape geometry is not changed, as the diamond layers grow directly onto the substrate surface and thus reproduce the geometry exactly.
