Transfer of tool data
Sandvik Coromant and Autodesk agree on cooperation
Sandvik Coromant has announced a partnership with Autodesk. The long-term cooperation is intended to improve computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
The collaboration will initially focus on addressing one of the most common challenges in the context of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM): The complex task of specifying cutting tools in order to determine the most effective way to use them. By giving Autodesk customers access to Sandvik Coromant's tool data, the time-consuming data selection process will also be eliminated.
With over 2,500 product launches annually, Sandvik Coromant is recognized worldwide for its vast expertise in machining solutions. Through this new partnership, Sandvik Coromant can now share its expertise with even more CAM users within the Autodesk Fusion 360 software solution.
"The manufacturing world is extremely competitive," explains Jonas Ström, Product Manager at Sandvik Coromant. "Materials are constantly becoming lighter, harder or stronger, machines more advanced, batch sizes smaller and component design more complex - all of which leads to an increased need for CAM programming and experienced CAM users." He adds: "Like engineers, CAM users also like to search for new technologies and test new solutions. However, they are often constrained by the limited time available in CNC machining. By providing them with access to tool information, recommendations and knowledge about specific machining processes at the click of a mouse, we can significantly simplify their processes."
Normally, CAM users have to manually transfer data from tool catalogs and enter the corresponding parameters into the CAM software - this process is often tedious and can significantly increase the expected time to market.
"Manufacturing and metal cutting are already complex processes. And they are often further complicated by the manual management of tool information, which leads to delayed setup times and more machining errors," explains Srinath Jonnalagadda, Vice President of Business Strategy for Design and Manufacturing at Autodesk. "By combining our CAM software solutions with Sandvik Coromant's extensive know-how and expertise in cutting tools, we help our customers save time in the planning phase and further increase efficiency."
The partnership with Autodesk is part of Sandvik Coromant's long-term vision. Both companies are pursuing similar goals: On the one hand, they want to help their customers remain competitive with the help of new technologies and, on the other, offer them digital design and manufacturing solutions.
