Data management
Connected store floor
The information process on the store floor must also be digitalized to ensure secure communication. The aim is to achieve end-to-end transparency of all production data and to safeguard product quality and production expertise. Coscom has developed a central database management system for this purpose, which is used as a central "data hub" along the entire CNC process chain.
The challenges in the modern machining process on the way to the networked smart factory are manifold: improving productivity, increasing efficiency, minimizing unproductive non-productive and set-up times, making better use of existing resources, moving faster from the idea or model to the finished component, manufacturing repeat parts more effectively. With the new FactoryDirector VM, Coscom offers a central CAM data management system that is used along the entire CNC process chain - from ERP to design/PLM to the machine tool - to achieve these overarching goals in production.
Its product/article management, NC program management and document management components are designed to guarantee end-to-end, digital transparency of all production data and ensure paperless production. In addition, the scalable software solution ensures seamless change management and thus supports process reliability, product quality and production efficiency.
The example of Schneto shows what this can mean in concrete terms. The family-run company from Bennwil in Switzerland develops and produces precision turned parts for industrial companies as a contract manufacturer. After the Swiss National Bank discontinued the minimum exchange rate of CHF 1.20 per euro in January 2015, the euro fell by around 20% against the Swiss franc within 24 hours, making Swiss products more expensive by the same percentage from one day to the next.
In order to remain competitive, the Swiss company needed to optimize the entire production process. Search and idle times were to be avoided, set-up was to be accelerated and data exchange between the ERP system, CAM data management and store floor level up to the machine was to be improved. The aim was also to increase process reliability in repeat part and large series production and to replace the paper-based approval process with a digital solution. One of the first measures the company tackled was the introduction of FactoryDirector VM CAM data management software.
The modular software solution focuses on data networking, securing processes and digitizing production. Production information such as article master data, work plan information and change indices from the ERP system form the basis for structured data storage and data control on the store floor. All data and information generated here is assigned to the versioned production item and the specific work sequence of the work plan in the central database and can be retrieved at the touch of a button.
Greater integration
FactoryDirector VM also forms the operational data platform for all application systems involved in the process and tool management, such as CAD/CAM and virtual machines, which can be started directly from the application. These systems should therefore achieve a higher level of data process integration - from the start of the application to structured data storage in the central data platform.
At Schneto, the digital networking of ERP and production ensured end-to-end data exchange from the ERP to the machine. CAM data management now ensures that the right production data is in the right place at the right time for the right process participant, enabling leaner and more stable processes.
