In industry, most grippers are pneumatically operated, but this is not suitable for hygienic environments.

Here, grippers with electric drives from Faulhaber are used, allowing the gripping force to be adapted to different objects via an appropriate control system. Depending on the version, such grippers can pick up components weighing up to 5 kg and, for example, use the brushless BX4 motor to delicately move delicate parts such as fragile reagent and sample tubes. Thanks to the practically wear-free drive, the grippers operate maintenance-free for many millions of cycles. A self-locking worm gear ensures safety even in the event of a power failure. Brakes are not necessary. Typical applications for the flexible grippers can be found in laboratory automation as well as in the production of car keys.
