Reduce dust exposure for employees

Dust is generated when cleaning dental equipment. To protect the environment and employees, a closed cabin equipped with a recirculating air extraction system is suitable for cleaning.

Dental Eggert was founded in 1982 by Hubert Eggert and currently employs more than 45 people. The company is based in Rottweil-Göllsdorf. Dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons and the entire practice staff are supported from there.

The company plans, modernizes and equips dental practices. Dental Eggert also sells dental equipment such as treatment chairs, digital X-ray systems, hygiene devices, grinding and recording devices, camera systems, patient chairs and over 94,000 practice materials. The company also takes care of the maintenance and servicing of the practice equipment to ensure it is in optimum condition.

Philipp Schmidt, Head of Marketing at Dental Eggert, says: "By combining dedicated people, a comprehensive range of services and the use of pioneering and high-quality technologies, we create intelligent and effective solutions to help dentists and specialist dentists build and secure their livelihoods." The company is certified according to ISO 13485, no further standards are required.

Appliances must be clean

However, the company does not manufacture equipment, only repairs it. Complete devices that dentists use on patients or in the background are repaired and maintained. For this purpose, the covers or housing parts are removed.

Before the actual service, the appliances are placed in a cabin and then cleaned and blown out. This is because in order to be able to carry out the repair and return a clean appliance to the customer, they must be completely cleaned before the repair or maintenance. This mainly involves removing dust and powder residues from the appliances

The cabin is connected to an extraction system that removes dust and dirt particles before they can enter the ambient air. The use of an extraction and filter system was in Eggert's interest in order to reduce dust generation in the workshop and to enable the equipment to be cleaned inside the workshop.

The purchase of an extraction system was considered as part of a workshop conversion in early 2019. Various suppliers were approached for this, but only two came forward - including a sales engineer from ULT. Dieter Schönheinz, responsible for sales of ULT systems in south-west Germany, explains: "My suggestion to create a cabin specifically for cleaning and extraction was well received. I worked out the dimensions and design together with a planning engineer from ULT. The cabin was the actual idea, the system size was dimensioned according to the cabin size." An ASD 1200 MD TH extraction system was finally purchased in July 2019.

Close cooperation for optimal use

In addition to the project planning of the best possible extraction solution, the functional principle of the system with recirculated air and the promise of technical support during the project planning were the deciding factors in ULT's favor. The recirculating air operation was another decisive factor, as an exhaust air version was not possible for structural reasons. The service workshop and therefore the cabin are located in the middle of a building on the first floor. In addition, the warm air from the workshop was to be used to heat the work area and not discharged to the outside.

The selection of suitable extraction systems was defined by the amount of dust to be removed. The representatives of the two companies also worked closely together to install an optimum extraction and filter solution. In the end, a standard version of the ASD 1200 was chosen, but the connection area was adapted due to the limited space available. These adaptations - especially to the limited space outside the cabin - were achieved through several visits and consultations.

Rainer Banholzer, Head of Workshop/Validation at Dental Eggert, explains: "A few months after commissioning the cleaning cabin, we can state that there are significant savings in terms of work paths, which makes work much easier, as previously cleaning was only ever carried out outdoors with compressed air." The employees no longer have to leave the building to clean the equipment - in bad weather, cleaning was previously even carried out directly at the repair workstations. The associated dust and noise pollution are now a thing of the past.

Workshop manager Banholzer concludes: "The system fully meets our expectations, as it has made it possible to vacuum and blow out our dirty customer appliances in the workshop."
