NSK app checks industrial bearings

The Verify app developed by NSK allows the authenticity of NSK rolling bearings to be checked. Until now, the app only worked for high-precision rolling bearings for machine tools. Now other series can also be verified.

NSK invests considerable resources in the identification of counterfeit bearings and the prosecution of counterfeiters. Nevertheless, counterfeit bearings are still being used time and again in Europe. NSK has developed the Verify app for these cases. It allows the user to scan the 2D barcode on the bearing packaging and compare it with an NSK database. This gives them the certainty that they are using a genuine NSK rolling bearing.

Until now, this app could only be used for NSK high-precision bearings, which are mainly installed in machine tools. From now on, smartphone-supported authentication can also be used for larger tapered roller bearings and cylindrical roller bearings from NSK production. The authenticity of large roller bearings can also be checked. These include large spherical roller bearings, ball bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings and axial bearings.

When reading the 2D code, NSK Verify not only checks the authenticity of the bearing, but also the number of access attempts based on the product ID, the individual identification number and - for conventional bearings - the 20-digit product number. In the case of high-precision bearings, further information is displayed relating to dimensional tolerances, running accuracy and the type of grease used.

Furthermore, users can also use NSK Verify to conveniently call up product data, catalogs and industry-specific information. This makes his work easier when integrating the bearings into his design or his own IT-based production management.

The app works with all NSK bearings manufactured in Japan and the UK that are marked with an "N" symbol in the bottom right corner of the 2D code on the box's packaging label. NSK introduced this type of marking in 2018. Attempting to use NSK Verify on older bearings will result in an error message.

Users who have installed the previous version of NSK Verify are automatically informed about the update when they start the app. The app is available as a free download in the Apple Store (for iOS) and via Google Play (for Android). as
