Remote I/O

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Edge Gateway for Zone 1 and 2

In addition to the remote I/O functionality, the IS1+ from R. Stahl is now also available for use as an edge gateway with connection via OPC UA and optional integrated signal pre-processing.

All diagnostic and device data is transmitted to higher-level systems via OPC UA in parallel with the supported communication protocols Profibus DP, Profinet, EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP. This means that IS1+ can be used in modern system concepts for monitoring and optimization functions via the second channel and enables these concepts to be used in Zone 1 hazardous areas.

While process control for existing systems is still carried out via Profibus, all additional data is transmitted via a second channel with Ethernet and OPC UA. Thanks to the on-board support of all protocols, the user can switch to an Ethernet protocol at any time.
