Voice control

New one-chip solution

NXP Semiconductors N.V., a leading provider of advanced connectivity solutions, launches the i.MX 8M, a new single-chip solution that enables comprehensive and intuitive voice control of connected media and home devices.

NXP is thus meeting the rapidly growing demand for voice control functions for the smart home and voice assistance functions, for example for internet searches. In collaboration with companies such as Amazon and Google, NXP has combined audio and video functions as well as machine learning in a platform that makes it possible to control networked devices with voice commands.

The chips have the necessary computing capacity to reduce the question and response times of intelligent networked devices. They are suitable for use in a wide range of devices and online services. These include smart TVs, paid TV services, soundbars and smart speakers, streaming devices and video recorders as well as networked lamps, thermostats, door locks and security devices for the smart home. The i.MX 8M processors are available immediately.

The NXP i.MX 8M chip family has the following functions, among others:

  • Audio and video playback with 4K Ultra HD resolution, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and hi-fi playback
  • High performance and universal application possibilities thanks to up to four 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 computing cores, flexible memory options and high-speed interfaces for device connection
  • Human-machine interfaces with dual display option, vision processing unit (VPU) and advanced user guidance
