Future challenges
Platform for hydrogen and fuel cells
Around 500 companies presented their solutions for the production, transportation, infrastructure, storage, refuelling and consumption of hydrogen at the Hannover Messe.
By 2030, the EU Commission wants to install electrolysers with a capacity of at least 40 GW and produce 10 million tons of green hydrogen in a step-by-step approach. Around 300 exhibitors showcased their solutions at Hydrogen + Fuel Cells Europe alone. Europe already produces and consumes around 80 million tons of hydrogen every year. The main challenge is to make the hydrogen already in use and the additional consumption green in the future. The EU Commission wants to replace "gray" hydrogen based on fossil energy sources with "green" hydrogen by 2030. Many companies are also investing in China. Refire, for example, says it already operates over 4,000 fuel cell trucks. Hydrogen + Fuel Cells Europe organized two forums parallel to the exhibition: the Public Forum and the Technical Forum.
