A common platform for cobots
Sysgo, NexCobot and Vectioneer are working on a joint project with Intel: a platform that serves as the basis for cobots. This will be presented at the upcoming Embedded World.
The demonstration at Embedded World is intended to illustrate the versatility of robots in safety-critical areas.
Safe and efficient
The virtual IIoT robot solution includes laser scanners for real-time obstacle avoidance and intelligent wheel systems for adaptive mobility. This demonstration, displayed on screen via a virtual robot and controlled by an EtherCAT-enabled Linux system, is designed to show the seamless integration of safety and efficiency in modern industrial IoT environments.
Such a solution can be used in the automotive industry, for example, to attach modules such as doors to the chassis. The demonstrator works with Vectioneer's MotorCortex app, which enables the safe operation of robots and can be set up quickly for a short time-to-market. A safety monitoring unit monitors the entire robot system. A virtual safety zone around the robot monitors whether a person enters the zone. If this is the case, the system immediately goes into standby mode. The applications are safely separated in terms of time and space so that no disruptions can occur and the hardware is consolidated.
"A new chapter in robot-human interaction"
The solution is based on NexCobot's SCB 100 platform, which uses the Intel Atom x6427FE processor, a multicore system on chip that has been developed to meet functional safety requirements thanks to Intel Silicon Integrity Technology and the associated safety package. According to the company, this platform is particularly suitable for embedded robotics solutions, as it fulfills requirements up to SIL 2 according to IEC 61508 and up to Cat. 3 PL d according to ISO 13849.
The software is based on the hypervisor and real-time operating system PikeOS, which is safety-certified according to IEC 61508 with SIL 4 and other industry standards. The basis is the PikeOS safety architecture, which is certified at EAL 5+ level according to Common Criteria.
