Adaptive multifunctional layers

Self-adaptive tool coating

The intelligent multifunctional coatings (MpC - Multipurpose Coatings) from Surcoatec are multi-alloyed and nanostructured and are characterized by high temperature and phase stability, low thermal conductivity, high hardness combined with good toughness and low coefficients of friction.

If specific alloying elements of the coating are required in the interaction zone between the tool and the component to be machined, for example in dry or hard machining, these can come to the fore through diffusion, precipitation and reaction and protect the tool from thermal load and reduce friction in the contact zone with increasing temperature.

MpC coatings from Surcoatec are widely used as all-rounders in the machining of unalloyed, alloyed, stainless and high-strength steels, but also for difficult-to-machine materials such as Ni-based or Ti alloys.
