Heat transfer and additive manufacturing
Conflux Technology enters the hypercar sector
Pagani has announced the signing of a six-year contract with Conflux to integrate Conflux heat exchangers into the transmission of its latest exclusive model, the Pagani Utopia, further advancing additive manufacturing in the hypercar industry.
The company's latest super sports car, the Pagani Utopia, is a prime example of technical excellence and driver-oriented design. Powered by the Pagani V12, a bespoke 6-liter biturbo engine from Mercedes-AMG, the car is equipped with a specially developed Xtrac seven-speed transmission, available as either automatic or manual. This powertrain combination features unparalleled control and responsiveness while meeting stringent global emissions standards, including California regulations.
Due to its extreme performance and flexibility, the Utopia required an advanced thermal management solution, particularly in relation to the transmission oil. As a solution to this problem, Pagani worked with Conflux to develop a bespoke heat exchanger using state-of-the-art additive manufacturing technologies. Compared to the previously used solution, Conflux enabled Pagani to achieve a remarkable 30 percent increase in heat dissipation, ensuring optimal thermal performance even in the most demanding conditions.
"It is a great privilege to contribute to the development of ground-breaking vehicles for industry-leading companies like Pagani," says Michael Fuller, founder and CEO of Conflux Technology. "Our advanced heat exchangers take efficiency to a whole new level and fit perfectly with the masterpieces of engineering craftsmanship for which Pagani is renowned. This collaboration is a prime example of the successful interplay of precision, innovation and excellence.
The Utopia's transmission has undergone rigorous road, track and thermal shock testing to prove its resilience and suitability for use in a hypercar characterized by unparalleled performance. This collaboration ensures that no compromises are made in terms of technical excellence and unadulterated driving dynamics. Thanks to Conflux's innovative technology, Xtrac has been able to set new standards in transmission performance without compromising on the light weight and motorsport-derived philosophy of our transmission solutions," says Oliver Nixon, Head of High Performance Automotive at Xtrac.
With Conflux's advanced heat transfer technology, the Pagani Utopia achieves excellent heat dissipation, ensuring optimal thermal balance even under extreme driving conditions," says Francesco Perini, Head of Engineering at Pagani. "Since perfection is our ultimate goal, every detail matters. The Conflux cartridge heat exchangers are the epitome of precision and innovation. They make a significant contribution to ensuring that the Utopia offers a pleasant driving experience at all times - whether on a romantic drive along the French Riviera or on a demanding race track.
This collaboration with Pagani strengthens Conflux's position in the hypercar industry and underlines the company's ability to deliver innovative thermal solutions while meeting ambitious sustainability targets. Thanks to a recently completed A$11 million Series B funding round, Conflux has been able to accelerate the development of its Conflux Production Systems (CPS) into the next phase to meet the growing global demand for high performance thermal systems for industries such as aerospace, motorsport, industrial machinery and defense.
