New Camfix tool holders

Iscar has extended its range of tool holders with Camfix mounting for turning, grooving and threading. Two versions are available: One type of boring bar is made of steel for overhang lengths up to 4xD, the other is made of steel with a carbide core.

The maximum projection length for steel boring bars is 4xD. Overhang lengths above this can lead to undesirable vibrations during machining. Iscar therefore offers vibration-damping boring bars with a carbide core for projection lengths of up to 5xD. The modular Camfix system enables numerous tool configurations. The interface ensures stable and precise positioning of the interchangeable head. The user can use the same interchangeable heads in the tools as in the Whisperline boring bars. When selecting a boring bar for internal turning operations, the ratio of the diameter to the length of the shank (LxD) must be taken into account. This is determined by the drilling depth and the bore diameter. Large LxD ratios can cause tool deflection and vibrations, which have a negative effect on precision and surface quality.
