Moulding Expo

Mara Hofacker,

Time-saving machining in tool, model and mold making

Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme will be exhibiting at the Moulding Expo in Stuttgart from May 21 to 24, 2019. At stand 9C35 in hall 9, the manufacturer specializing in process and material-optimizing tools will be presenting solutions for the key topics of the international trade fair for tool, pattern and mould making.

Highlights include tools for aluminum machining, the Graftor series for the production of graphite electrodes and the Blockbuster, a special tool for machining ureol blocks in model making. Co-exhibitors are Gustav Blome and Primacon, whose Primacon 4024-5D precision machining center will be used to show examples of aluminium machining and graphite and steel machining. Gustav Blome will be contributing its wide range of graphite grades for die-sinking EDM and high-quality accessories.

Hufschmied is presenting three new additions to its range of tools for the optimum machining of aluminium and wrought aluminium alloys at the Moulding Expo: the Wolverine HC403BD and HC403BDR high-volume roughing end mills and full radius milling cutters, the Shadow-Drill Z2 spiral drill and the AD401GF drilling thread milling cutters for holes up to 3xD with and without internal coolant supply. Thanks to the adapted cutting edge geometries, the low heat development of the milling tools in the Proto-Line, which will also be on display, results in the highest surface quality in aluminum machining. With the single and double-edged tools in a large selection of clearance lengths, burr-free machining is possible without the formation of built-up edges on the tool cutting edges. This applies both to roughing cutters for removing high chip volumes and to finishing tools for producing defined surface finishes on the workpiece.

Carbide tools

In the field of hard machining up to 72 HRC, Hufschmied is presenting new mini milling cutters from 0.3 mm diameter with three instead of two cutting edges in the HC6X3MUT series and outstanding tool life: The HC633MUT as a full radius milling cutter and the HC643MUT as a torus milling cutter, both from a diameter of 0.3 mm, are a further logical step in the expansion of the milling cutter range for machining hard steels. After only a short time, they represent the benchmark in the machining of such materials. Other members of the Hard-Line family, such as the HHF646 (torus milling cutter) and HHF667 (full radius milling cutter), belong to the program on display.

Long service life

Due to the material properties, the production of graphite electrodes is a challenge that can be met very well with the Graftor. The special tool from Hufschmied is characterized by a patented, nanocrystalline diamond coating, low cutting pressure and an innovative combined roughing/finishing geometry. This means that electrodes with delicate pins and fine webs can be produced from the highly abrasive material graphite without changing tools. This means permanently faster and more cost-saving production.

Blockbuster

Thanks to their tool geometry with peripheral cutting edges, the Blockbuster tools from Hufschmied are the perfect solution for carving models out of block material in record time. The combined roughing/finishing tools, available as ball and torus cutters, allow high feed rates with minimal cutting pressure. Depending on the model material and machine conditions, there is now a choice of three cutting edge geometries: close-toothed, medium-toothed and coarse-toothed.
