Robust I/O connectors save space

The ix-Industrial series from Hirose is now available from RS Components. The robust series of connectors meets all requirements for applications where installation space is limited. The connectors support I/O signal transmission speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second.

The ix-Industrial series is suitable for a range of industrial applications, including factory automation controls, industrial robotics, servo amplifiers, PLCs and many other uses such as safety systems. According to the company, the new Hirose series can save up to 75 percent of the required installation space compared to RJ45-based solutions. In addition, the series also supports CAT5e (1 Gbit/s) and CAT6A (10 Gbit/s) cables and features optimized, robust and reliable EMI and ESD shielding.

Other features of the series include availability with two coding codes for Ethernet and non-Ethernet applications and compliance with the IEC PAS 61076-3-124 standard. Electrical features include a current rating of 1.5A for all 10 contacts with 3A capability on pins 1, 2, 6 and 7 and a rated voltage of 50V. The connectors are designed for 5,000 mating cycles and an operating temperature of -40 to +85 °C.

The sockets can be mounted in parallel with a spacing of just 10 mm, allowing several plugs to be positioned next to each other on a single PCB. The socket shell is prepared for through-hole mounting on the PCB and the cable connection unit and cable clamp are integrated in a single connector shell. In addition, the snap-in I/O connector features a positive metal latch that signals secure mating with a clear tactile click.
