New AC welding process for aluminum

EWM is equipping its new Titan XQ 400 AC plus welding machine with the new acArc plus xQ MIG-AC welding process, which, according to the company, improves the welding of thin sheets in both manual and automated applications.

The water-cooled welding machine was specially developed for welding aluminum. In the new alternating current welding process, the welding current alternates between positive and negative polarity during the process, making the arc easy to control even with AIMg alloys. It also bridges larger air gaps, even in automated applications. Further advantages are the low welding spatter and reduced magnesium oxide. Thanks to the latter property, the weld seam is clean and shiny. Welding fume emissions are also reduced.
