Freedom for mobile manual electric welding

Melanie Steinbeck,

Compact and mobile cordless welder

Fronius is expanding the Ignis series with a battery-powered welding machine. The Ignis Battery enables welding without a mains connection. The device is designed for up to 150 A and can be used for manual metal arc welding (MMA) and mobile TIG welding. It is compatible with all types of electrodes - rutile, basic or CEL.

Compact manual electric welder for mobile use

With a weight of 12 kg (without charger) and a robust housing, the Ignis Battery is suitable for mobile applications. The IP23 protection class, the stainless steel filter and a ground clearance of 3.5 cm protect the appliance from water, dust and conditions such as heat or cold.

Battery and charging functions

The battery management system monitors the voltage and charging process and protects the battery from overcharging or deep discharging. The high-performance lithium-ion battery (LiFePO4) with 750 Wh enables the welding of up to 31 electrodes (2.5 mm) or 30 minutes of TIG welding at 100 A per charge. The quick-charge function makes 80 % battery power available again in 40 minutes, a full charge takes 60 minutes.

In hybrid mode, the device can weld and charge at the same time. The integrated power reserve ensures a stable arc, even with fluctuating mains voltage. A small 2 kVA generator is sufficient for generator operation.
