High Performance Milling

HPM becomes Nmill

For more than 20 years, the Chemnitz-based machine tool manufacturer Niles-Simmons has been developing and manufacturing vertical machining centers. The company, which is mainly known on the market as a manufacturer of CNC lathes, inclined-bed turning/milling machining centers and special machines, has been selling these vertical machining centers under the brand name HPM for High Performance Milling via the Swiss company Mikron (now GF Machining Solutions) on the basis of a cooperation agreement.

The planned in-house production of the HPM1150, HPM1350 and HPM1850 sizes currently manufactured in Chemnitz by GF within the Mill-P series planned at the new Swiss plant in Biel does not mean the end of the cooperation between the two companies, but Niles-Simmons is going its own way in marketing the HPM machines. As a first step, the small size was redesigned as the Nmill 1400 under Niles' own brand name Nmill and, in addition to a control upgrade to TNC640, provided with optional turning functionality. The HSK63 version of the proven machine concept has been equipped with a 1,000-millimeter rotary table with a high-torque direct drive. This enables the Nmill 1400T to perform complete machining tasks including milling-turning functionality with a table speed of up to 500 revolutions per minute and a clampable 38-kilowatt spindle. as
