Intec: Face milling cutter

Andreas Mühlbauer,

New PCD milling program

As part of the new PCD milling program, Paul Horn has developed the DM70 and DM90 series, which are specially designed for face and corner milling operations. The focus here is on high milling and surface qualities as well as burr-free milling.

DM70

The system enables high milling and surface qualities in smaller diameter ranges. The precise MDR short taper facing system guarantees axial run-outs in the µ range. The simple and quick replacement of the PCD-tipped milling cutter with a carbide base body is suitable for lean production processes and automated production systems. The carbide base body also offers a high level of stability and guarantees a long service life, even when the cutting edges are re-tipped several times. With one high-tooth and one low-tooth diameter variant and one short and one long HSK63-A basic holder, the series is designed for stable milling processes on the one hand and face milling operations in deep structural components on the other. The system offers process-reliable cooling properties with a well thought-out and screwed-on coolant distribution on the face.

DM90

Burr-free milling is essential for face or corner milling of die-cast aluminum components, the machining of engine or housing components and the face milling of contact surfaces of various non-ferrous metals. Accordingly, PCD-tipped cutting edges are the measure of all things. The DM90 series is specially designed to meet these requirements with high performance. It offers a high and low cutting edge variant in core dimensions from 50 mm to 125 mm diameter. Horn offers the right tool for these applications, without time-consuming presetting of the cutting edges. The series impresses with its extremely smooth running and precise axial run-out accuracy in the µ range. Whether for roughing cuts up toap = 4 mm or for finishing cuts, the system achieves surface finishes of less than Rz 4 µm.

Economy and productivity combined with Horn technology, high flexibility and reliability offer the supplier a comprehensive selection of HORN tools in the field of high-hardness cutting materials. The face milling cutters from the DM70 and DM90 series complement the portfolio for reliable aluminum machining in conjunction with five PCD end mill variants and a replaceable head milling system.
