Since its foundation in 1980, Stego Elektrotechnik has been developing, producing and distributing a range of products for the protection of electrical and electronic components. Enclosure heaters, filter fans, LED lights, thermostats, hygrostats and enclosure accessories ensure optimized climatic conditions in a wide range of environments and ensure the long-term reliable operation of sensitive components.

The assistant: mature and proven in practice
The challenge for Stego was to adequately support the company's growth with additional workstations and more efficient production without increasing the production area. Work schedules were to be automated and modern working conditions created for employees. "We didn't want complete automation by robots, but rather to preserve existing jobs and create new ones," says Managing Director Elmar Mangold. It was particularly important to the manufacturer to reduce the error and complaint rate by digitizing the processes.

The choice fell on the Ulixes assistant. Mature and already successfully established on the market for years, the solution impressed above all with its comprehensive worker guidance and product-independent, flexible application options. The compact and space-saving design of the system was intended to ensure optimum utilization of the available space. According to Stego, of all the solutions considered, only the assistant was ultimately able to meet all the requirements in total.

Clear benefits for employees and the company
Ulrike König works in Stego's work preparation department and is responsible for creating workflows and training new employees: "I come from a commercial background and have no IT experience. The assistant is so easy to use that anyone who is interested can use it."

The complete assembly of the thermal management products is guided and accompanied by the assistant. At Stego, production is currently fully assisted at a total of 13 workstations in Germany and France. Additional devices such as hand scanners and torque wrenches are integrated via corresponding interfaces to carry out the inspection work. Each workstation currently assembles 20 products in various processes and checks their quality - the assistant guides the operator through all work processes.

Elmar Mangold sums up: "When it was introduced, the employees were initially skeptical. However, they now enjoy working with the assistant, appreciate their modern workplace and see the instructions as a significant relief in their day-to-day work." According to Stego Production Manager Emanuele Di Franco, the desired quality improvements have also been implemented, meaning that the error rate has since tended towards zero.

Global deployment planned
The success story continues: STEGO intends to continue working with Ulixes in the future. Incoming and outgoing goods, picking and packing are to be successively optimized with the assistant. Elmar Mangold is even planning to use the assistant at the Stego production sites worldwide. He is convinced by his assisted workstations: "The introduction of the assistant has significantly increased the efficiency of our production." pb
