BASF and Materialise intensify cooperation

BASF has announced an investment of 25 million US dollars in the Belgian company Materialise. As part of an open business model, the two companies want to work together more closely to continuously improve materials and software for various 3D printing technologies and bring them to market faster. The partners will focus on applications in the consumer goods, automotive and aerospace industries. Under the agreement, BASF will test and further optimize its materials systematically and on a larger scale on Materialise's machines and infrastructure.

"With their complementary business areas, our two companies complement each other very well and will be in an even better position to find and expand new business opportunities as a result of the cooperation," says Volker Hammes, Managing Director BASF 3D Printing Solutions. The partners want to accelerate the development of innovative applications and new materials. "Materialise has an excellent infrastructure with its 3D printing facilities in Leuven and innovative software solutions. Together, we can make even better use of our strengths to advance the 3D printing industry with new products and technologies together with partners and customers," explains Hammes.

"To increase the adoption of 3D printing as a complementary manufacturing technology for end products, our industrial customers are increasingly demanding more control, more choice and ultimately lower costs," says Fried Vancraen, CEO of Materialise. "We are confident that this collaboration with a leading materials manufacturer will help accelerate the adoption of 3D printing in existing markets and create significant business opportunities in new markets."
