Software calculates CO2 balance at product level
Ecospeed Product is Ecospeed's new web-based software for calculatingCO2 emissions at product level. The calculation meets the requirements of the CSRD Directive and DIN EN ISO 14067 and can be integrated into the user's IT infrastructure via an API interface.
The task is a challenge, but solvable: determiningCO2 emissions at product level. Many companies will have to complete this task in future as part of the CSRD reporting obligation. Others will be asked to do so by customers who are subject to this obligation. And still others use the PCF with the aim of developing more sustainable products. Ecospeed provides a new tool for this task: the cloud-based software Ecospeed Product, developed on the basis of more than twenty years of experience in the software-supported determination and balancing ofCO2 emissions of products (PCF), companies (CCF) and regions.
The balancing process is simple: the user specifies the functional unit and enters some key data (materials, weight, machining processes, production quantity). Based on these values, they can determine theCO2 emissions using the ecoinvent factor database - which, according to the company, is unique due to its large scope. Users also have the option of entering parameters they have determined themselves or those provided by contractors/suppliers (e.g. emissions from the energy mix of electricity suppliers and primary data provided by suppliers).
The balancing procedure complies with the requirements of the CSRD Directive, DIN EN ISO 14067 (greenhouse gas balance for products) and the ISO 14040 to 14044 series of standards.
One of the special functions of the new software is the ability to create upper and lower assemblies as balancing units. This is in line with the industry trend towards modular products. Product comparisons are also possible - a useful tool when designing sustainable products with a favorable greenhouse gas balance. The most important results (includingCO2 emissions according to emission categories, materials, life cycle phases or key considerations in the manufacturing processes) can be presented in a fact sheet.
An API interface offers users the option of transferring accounting data from their ERP system and reporting it, for example, for CSRD-compliant sustainability reports in the Scope 3 area.
The software is available immediately. As users purchase a web-based license, they always have the latest version available and do not have to worry about updates.
