Pneumatic indexing plunger

Andreas Mühlbauer,

End positions detected with just one sensor

Ganter is expanding its range of indexing plungers with type GN 817.7, which is pneumatically actuated and detects both end positions with just one sensor. It is therefore a further development of the manually operated indexing plunger GN 817.6.

The new model can also be used in inaccessible places and integrated into automated processes. Position sensing is based on tried-and-tested magnetic technology, but both end positions are detected and can be set individually. Sensor teaching is carried out either directly on site using a small operating element on the cable-supported and clip-fixed sensor, which also includes LEDs for visual feedback, or via IO-Link using the system controller.

The signals transmitted during operation when the respective end positions are reached are transmitted directly to the system's control technology via a cable connector. The GN 817.7 is made of stainless steel, offers four bolt diameters and three functions. Form D is double-acting, i.e. the bolt engages and disengages pneumatically. Form A is single-acting - the indexing plunger extends when pneumatically actuated, and with form E the plunger retracts. The spring-loaded plunger always returns to its starting position automatically, for example in the event of a pressure drop. The indexing plunger works at pressures between 4 and 6 bar, the sensor is IP 67 compliant.
