Optosensor
Recognize what is transparent
Sensor specialist Contrinex has introduced the TRU-C23 photoelectric sensor, which is suitable for detecting transparent objects. The photoelectric TRU-C23 with IO-Link works as a reflector system and, thanks to a patented detection principle, offers high detection reliability and can also reliably detect thin transparent objects.
It uses a light source that operates in the ultraviolet spectrum and whose rays are absorbed by clear glass or plastic. The measurement is based on an LED that emits polarized UV light and a reflector made of special materials suitable for UV light. Overall, the sensor achieves an operating range of around 1,000 millimeters. It can also be used to detect small objects in its immediate vicinity. The sensor uses so-called autocollimation for this purpose.
The optical axis of the transmit channel is aligned identically to that of the receive channel with the aid of a special semi-transparent filter. This avoids the often disturbing blind zone at close range. Typical application examples can be found in the detection of transparent films or containers made of clear glass or plastic as well as in the presence detection of vials or tubes in the pharmaceutical industry. pb
