Industrial computers for hazardous areas

Manufacturing companies can now increase the reliability and longevity of their automation systems in hazardous areas.

The Allen-Bradley VersaView 5200 thin client and VersaView 5400 industrial computer, two advanced visualization solutions from Rockwell Automation, are now approved for use in harsh environments in industries such as oil and gas, tire and rubber, and pulp and paper.

The certification relates to use in hazardous areas in accordance with UL Class I Division 2 and ATEX Category 2. In addition, the products have BIS certification for the Indian markets. The products are available with these new certifications at no additional cost.

In addition, both devices now also have the option of making the electronics even more robust with circuit board protective coatings. The coatings help to protect the circuits from environmental influences such as moisture, fungal attack, dust and corrosion.

If the ThinManager software from Rockwell Automation is used in the system, the VersaView 5200 thin clients can receive data as soon as a connection is established. No additional setup is required in this case. As a result, data exchange between the devices is accelerated. Furthermore, the data is not stored locally, but on a server. This reduces the risk of important data from production being lost if a VersaView thin client goes offline.

The VersaView 5400 industrial computers have an open software architecture. This gives users the greatest possible freedom when installing the desired software. The industrial computers can also be managed as devices within FactoryTalk Analytics for Devices from Rockwell Automation. This combined hardware and software package allows users to access status and diagnostic data from smart devices to track and improve their performance.
