Editorial
Actually ...
... we, the INDUSTRIAL Production team, and you, our readers, were supposed to meet at the trade fair grounds in Hanover in the next few days. But this meeting, like so many before it and so many more to come, has had to be canceled. Instead, Deutsche Messe is also offering a virtual event (see page 12). We ourselves have now held three virtual trade fairs and congresses and are currently working on a new format for the summer.
The topic that defines the Hannover Messe Digital Edition and, in a better world, would probably also have defined the presence trade fair, is digital transformation. Our focus in the current edition examines precisely this question: How does the buzzword become a reality in production? What data actually needs to flow and where can intelligent algorithms filter out superfluous information? Which technologies enable real-time reactions on the store floor and how can secure remote maintenance be carried out at the customer's premises in Brazil, Kazakhstan or Thailand?
During the crisis, the transition to the digitally networked factory has proven to be a growth driver that has ensured good (or at least manageable) results, particularly in the German mechanical and plant engineering sector. There is therefore hope that the industry and its employees will ultimately emerge stronger from the endless crisis.
With this in mind, I wish you a stimulating and rewarding read.
