Polymer additives, adhesive tapes, 3D printing

Mara Hofacker,

3M with plastics expertise at the K

3M will be presenting the entire spectrum of polymer additives, lightweight construction, 3D printing and bonding technologies at the K plastics trade fair from October 16 to 23, 2019 (Hall 5, Stand B10). Visitors to the multi-technology group's stand will be able to experience product innovations and further developments.

The Advanced Materials area will focus on lightweight construction materials such as glass bubbles as well as polymer additives to improve the properties of plastics and boron nitride powders and granulates as thermally conductive or electrically insulating fillers for polymers. Partners of the 3M Glass Bubbles Partner Program, which was launched in 2018, will be demonstrating the processing of the materials live at the trade fair.

Sustainability technology for perfluorinated polymers

The upcycling of perfluorinated polymers is another step towards closing the loop. The 3M sustainability technology now makes it possible to break down perfluorinated polymers (PFA, FEP), which are difficult to convert, into their monomer components.

Bonding with low surface energy

In the area of adhesive tapes, the 3M VHB LSE is one of the most important innovations. It enables the bonding of materials with low surface energy. It is extremely hard-wearing, resistant to various external influences and easy to process.

Another focus is on 3D printing with 3M Dyneon Fluoropolymers. The process allows fully fluorinated polymers such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to be used for additive manufacturing. The company will be presenting further developments of the process and helpful guidelines.
