EMC HD variants

New cylinders are twice as fast

Bosch Rexroth doubles the speed of the Heavy Duty electromechanical cylinder, EMC-HD 150, and increases the dynamics of powerful movements with new variants of the EMC-HD plug & play actuator. They are primarily used for bending, forming, pressing, flanging or folding.

The actuators achieve a maximum speed of 0.84 meters per second in size 150 with the new PLSA planetary screw drive in size 60 by 20, making them twice as fast as before. This opens up considerable potential for shortening cycle times.

Rexroth actuators move high loads precisely and dynamically. Depending on the performance requirements, they transmit the motor rotation either via ball or planetary screw drives, with the latter covering high forces. The design principle of planetary screw drives with large contact surfaces increases the force density and ensures compact dimensions. Bosch Rexroth has many years of experience in the manufacture of screw drives. The drive units achieve a high positioning and repeat accuracy of 0.01 millimetres without an additional position measuring system, even with minimal travel movements.

In the EMC-HD size 150, newly developed sizes of planetary screw drives with a pitch of 20 millimetres achieve higher dynamics. Compared to the previously available versions with a pitch of ten millimetres, the motor only needs half the speed to generate the same speed. At the same time, the new version can handle maximum permissible axial forces of up to 184 kilonewtons.

As a system or component
Rexroth offers the EMC-HD ready for installation as a complete system with various precisely matched gearboxes, servomotors and drive controllers. Users can also purchase cylinders and planetary screw drives as mechanical components. With their multi-Ethernet interface, the complete system solutions support all common real-time Ethernet protocols and can be integrated into different automation structures. With their own intelligence, the drive controllers close the control loop decentrally. Users can freely parameterize force, position and speed over the entire operating range.

The ready-to-install actuators comply with protection class IP65. The interface from the piston rod to the housing is optimally sealed to prevent the ingress of dirt. Integrated end position buffers protect the mechanism during commissioning. Switches and force measuring pins are optionally available. The cylinder mechanism is designed for grease lubrication - optionally also for low temperatures down to minus 30 degrees Celsius.

The Rexroth modular system for electromechanical cylinders comprises a total of twelve sizes, each with finely graduated pitches for different dynamic requirements. The smaller EMC series with aluminum housing starts with push/pull forces of up to 1.2 kilonewtons and extends to 56 kilonewtons in seven performance levels. The five variants of the EMC-HD heavy-duty cylinders with steel housing start at an overlapping 44 kilonewtons and cover the force range up to 290 kilonewtons. Both series are suitable for universal use in almost all mechanical and plant engineering applications. as
