New chain for long distances
The Plane-Chain from Igus is an energy chain concept for long travel distances and high speeds. With an E-Chain lying on its side in a special guide trough, the system ensures a compact and fail-safe energy and data supply.
A look at modern production shows that you can't do without robots. They can be found in the automotive industry in particular. Whether as linear, gantry or industrial robots that move on the seventh axis. They must always work reliably and quickly in confined spaces and over long travel distances. This calls for a reliable power and data supply. For maximum reliability in applications with high speeds and cycle rates, Igus has now developed a new type of energy chain system for automation with the Plane-Chain.
In the new concept, an energy chain is guided flat on its side in a special trough. The advantage here is that the designer saves space thanks to the low overall height. The convex trough shape of the trough allows the E6 series E-Chain to travel safely in two recessed channels. With its low friction factor, the stainless steel trough ensures a long service life for the chain. A special plastic insulating layer can be used on the outside of the channel to provide additional noise insulation for the system. Thanks to the lightweight components, the e-chain solution can be easily mounted under the ceiling of gantry robots, for example.
Secure protection thanks to complete enclosure
The Plane-Chain is also available fully enclosed at the customer's request. This means that no objects can penetrate from the outside, which increases operational safety. In addition to the possible applications of the Plane-Chain for automation, the new concept in closed form is also suitable for energy supply on cranes. Here, cables and e-chains can be protected from serious damage caused by wind and weather inside the corrosion-free channels. as
