AI-based assembly software
Guided as if by magic
Industrial assembly lines are diverse: some work with frequently changing product setups, while others are characterized by complex processes and a high need for coordination between workers and other experts. Fraunhofer IGD supports users with a combination of augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to overcome the challenges in production. The solution consists of an AR-supported assembly workstation that guides employees through the assembly sequence and simultaneously enables quality control of the components as well as remote support. This enables companies to reduce the error rate and cost-intensive downtimes.
The AR-supported assembly workstation at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD makes paper-based instructions superfluous. The AR glasses show the sequence and alignment of the components right in front of your eyes. A visual error message, including an overlay of the correct element, appears immediately in the field of vision. The software prevents errors from occurring in the assembly process and, if necessary, production is continued with this defect. This support is in demand in the automotive sector, for example, as well as in plant and tool construction and quality assurance. The manufacturing process for batteries and individually assembled switch cabinets are also potential fields of application.
