Connectors for fuel lines
Norma offers a new connector especially for laser-welded connections. It is particularly suitable for fuel lines in hybrid vehicles and other vehicles with confined engine compartments.
The SR Quick Connector Laser Welded is connected to the plastic pipe using laser radiation. The resulting connection is around 30 percent more resistant and therefore more reliable than mechanical connections.
"The demands on connection technology in the engine compartment are constantly increasing, for example due to ever narrower engine compartments and higher temperature ranges," says Dr. Michael Schneider, CEO at Norma. "With laser-welded fuel lines, we exceed the current industry standards and offer our customers even more safety for connections in the high-temperature range."
The connector is particularly suitable for the demanding fuel lines in hybrid vehicles and other vehicles with cramped engine compartments. The dual drive in hybrid vehicles or additional units in vehicles with combustion engines mean that engine compartments are becoming increasingly cramped. As a result, heat builds up and the temperature in the engine compartment rises more sharply. Above a certain temperature, conventional plug connections may no longer be able to guarantee the usual strength and tightness. The laser-welded connection offers greater safety as it is particularly strong and resistant.
The interface between the connector and the pipe is shorter than that of connectors with a fir-tree profile, thus taking into account the limited space in engine compartments. Thanks to the welding technology, no additional O-ring is required. Thanks to the material savings, the connector is more compact and lighter than comparable connectors.
The patented SR Quick Connector Laser Welded is made of laser-transparent thermoplastic. During laser welding, two materials are joined together with a material bond: The laser radiation is absorbed and converted into heat, fusing the two materials together. Such a so-called material-locked connection offers a higher tensile strength than mechanical connections using form fit and force fit. Particularly at temperatures above 150 degrees Celsius, this means a more reliable connection than conventional plug connections. as
