Biocompatible wiring

Connecting cables for medical devices are subject to stringent requirements. Especially when cables are used between the generator and handpiece/applicator and therefore also come into contact with the patient.

In addition to the basic variant with high notch and tear resistance, the range of materials for cables includes a material for ultra-flexible and supple cables, one for cables with UL approval and a "non-blooming" variant. (Image: SAB)

In addition to flexibility and safe cleaning options, biocompatibility, reliability through a long service life, low weight and a low-adhesion, non-sticking cable surface in use and approval in accordance with American standards are required. The typical twisting effect when the cable is wound onto devices by hand should also be prevented.

Cable specialist SAB Bröckskes is launching new cable materials for medical devices on the market. The biocompatible SABmed S material series meets all market requirements. All materials are biocompatible in accordance with EN ISO 10993-5 and are characterized by excellent notch resistance. Almost every type of wire required on and in the medical device can be produced with this material mixture. Single cores, interfaces for bus systems (such as CAT5 to CAT7, RS232, USB), mains cables or hand-held device cables can be offered. In addition to the basic variant with high notch and tear resistance, the material range includes a material for ultra-flexible and supple cables, one for cables with UL approval and a "non-blooming" variant. as
