From Munich to Verona in three hours - Herrenknecht tunnel boring machines drive up the mountain at the Brenner Pass. Among other things, they are equipped with robust, oil-injected compressors from Atlas Copco.

This tunnel boring machine measures around 100 meters in length; the drill head at the front of the picture has a diameter of around 10 meters. In this case, it is equipped with roller bits, the pressure of which causes the rock to crack. Peeling blades are used for softer layers of earth.
