New Quantec

The next generation of all-rounders is here

Kuka has relaunched its best-selling KR Quantec product series to date. The first deliveries are scheduled for April 2019. The series has been optimized in terms of performance, efficiency and flexibility, among other things.

The new Quantec has the largest payload and reach portfolio on the market in the high payload class, emphasizes the manufacturer Kuka. Since its market launch in 2010, it has delivered more than 100,000 robots from this series. The reason for this is not only the high reliability but also the wide range of applications for this all-rounder. With a payload capacity of 120 to 300 kilograms, the robots are designed for use in almost all market segments, for example in the automotive industry, foundries, the medical sector or for processing and handling tasks.

"Our experience in the dynamic automation sector has been incorporated into the new generation. The result is a reliable, versatile and efficient solution of the highest quality for the production landscape of tomorrow. With this robot, customers are already investing in the future of their production," says Wolfgang Bildl, the responsible product manager. The portfolio of the new Quantec generation has been optimized. Delivery times have also been significantly reduced thanks to a leaner modular system. "At the same time, we can offer our customers custom-fit, flexible robots that represent a safe investment in the future - including the option of lifting the payload in the field, high variability thanks to special variants in the portfolio or technical optimizations such as shorter stopping distances or an optimized working area," says Wolfgang Bildl.

Software add-ons: new movement modes for ideal process quality

The revised design ultimately leads to a lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), as previous maintenance measures are no longer necessary. The KR Quantec will also be easier to maintain in future: a new cable and energy supply concept and a reduced number of spare parts ensure even shorter downtimes and minimal maintenance requirements - the keyword here is optimized modular design. The new all-rounder therefore stands for even higher availability and faster commissioning.

The new generation of this series is prepared for additional motion modes: These are software add-ons that ensure optimum movement of the robot for certain applications. The "Path Mode", for example, enables path travel with greater accuracy and precision, while the "Dynamic Mode" enables higher speed and therefore reduced cycle times at bottlenecks in production lines.

The motion modes dynamically control the movement of the robot and extend its properties. This ensures ideal process quality based on software. The first motion modes should be available in the second half of 2019 and can be loaded via the robot controller. pb
