SMC equips Fanuc Academy

SMC and Fanuc have been working together for three years to equip the Fanuc Academy. SMC supplies electrical and pneumatic automation solutions for the Academy's robotics and automotive training rooms.

From electric cylinders from the Ley series to SY valve terminals with IO-Link connection, SMC technologies are used at Fanuc. Two rooms are already equipped, and a third will be set up in the course of 2019.

Cooperation for better qualification
Fanuc offers industrial robots and CNC control systems, SMC has electrical and pneumatic automation technology in its portfolio "The probability that technicians in production and maintenance will come into contact with combinations of our products, for example with robot arms, is therefore high," says Thomas Meyer, Didactic Manager at SMC. Jens Mühlegg, Technical Sales Support Universities and Education Centers at Fanuc, agrees: "It therefore makes sense to equip our training courses at Fanuc with state-of-the-art automation solutions from SMC."

This is why, in addition to maintenance units and swivel clamp cylinders, electric cylinders from the Ley series and valve terminals with IO-Link from the SY series are used in seven robotic training cells. The robust valve terminals with steel spools are extremely durable with up to 200 million switching cycles. Like the Ley cylinders with a clean design, they are ideal for applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The training cells therefore offer an environment that is as close to reality as possible.

Training future automation experts
The Fanuc Academy in Neuhausen auf den Fildern in Baden-Württemberg offers space for 19 training rooms, each with 98 square meters, in which internal and external lecturers teach participants from the food and automotive industries, aviation and electronics, among others, in a sustainable and future-oriented manner directly on the product. "Our more than 2,500 visitors per year are well catered for, with the company restaurant and 67 hotel rooms right on site," explains Jens Mühlegg. The course program is flexible and can be adapted in terms of difficulty and detail - from beginners to automation professionals. as
