3D vision sensor on the robot

With the 3D vision sensor from Fanuc, images can be taken during the movement of a robot to determine the gripping position. This "snap-in-motion" function saves time during fast gripping processes because the robot does not have to interrupt its movement to take a picture.

The 3D vision sensor can be used, for example, in assembly when feeding the assembly line or in logistics when stacking a pallet. The sensor is also suitable for bin-picking tasks and for detecting low-contrast objects as well as for checking the presence of parts or workpieces. © Fanuc

In addition to the sensor itself, the integrated service package also includes software and cables. All interfaces for automation are already available and the hardware required for image processing is already integrated in the robot controller. The sensor is suitable for detecting workpieces with shiny and reflective surfaces. It operates in a field of view of up to around 450 x 530 millimeters with a resolution of 950 x 1,204 pixels, making it even more accurate than the high-performance 3D area sensor. The R-30iB Plus robot controller provides good conditions for operating the 3D vision sensor in terms of both performance and storage options. The sensor is mounted after the sixth axis, i.e. between the wrist and gripper; in an application with an increased risk of collision, the sensor can also be integrated into a gripper. pb
