Productivity in aluminum: plus 30 percent

With the DC166, Walter is launching a solid carbide step drill for aluminum. The internally cooled special tool is optimized for minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) or cooling with emulsion.

The special drill family is expected to achieve productivity increases of between 20 and 30 percent.

According to the manufacturer, the DC166 is particularly interesting for series manufacturers with large batch sizes, preferably in the automotive sector. This is because the DC166 achieves productivity increases of 20 to 30 percent compared to straight-fluted drills when machining aluminum components with many identical holes or when deep-hole drilling. The reason for this is a corresponding increase in feed rate. This is the result of a special cutting edge geometry with gashing and very sharp cutting edges as well as polished chip flutes. The sharp cutting edges are suitable for soft materials. Pointing and polished flutes improve chip removal. sw
