Sandvik Coromant has launched a project with Microsoft to drive the development and digitalization of the manufacturing industry. By combining Sandvik Coromant's machining expertise with Microsoft's technical solutions, the aim is to connect parts of the production chain and create solutions for the next generation of manufacturing. The agreement also includes an acceleration of Sandvik Coromant's internal digitalization network.

Sandvik Coromant's CoroPlusoffering was developed in part together with Microsoft and is based on Azure IoT Suite, Cortana Intelligence Suite and Dynamics 365 for Field Service. Among other things, it is designed to connect people, machines, tools and data on a single platform so that Sandvik Coromant customers have a better basis for their decisions. It also provides an overview of various developments in the manufacturing sector. In this way, savings such as reductions in machine downtime can be achieved.

"For us, the collaboration with Microsoft is a key factor in the success of our digital strategy. We have entered into a historic relationship and look forward to continuing our journey together. We create value by jointly developing and implementing solutions for the manufacturing industry that guarantee efficiency, sustainability and growth. With this unique partnership, we are embarking on a new path to cooperate more closely in the development of our competencies," explains Nadine Crauwels, President of Sandvik Coromant.

One aspect of Sandvik Coromant's CoroPlus offering is that machine-level data is used not only to adjust the equipment or alert technicians when maintenance is required, but also to warn managers of potential problems. The data is collected at plant level, meaning that the customer's industrial tool becomes "intelligent" and can be adjusted and set at any time for efficient use and to avoid production downtime.

The partnership with Microsoft follows an integrated approach to digitizing data, knowledge and experience that Sandvik Coromant uses every day to support its customers. It will also serve as an additional tool for streamlining production.

"Sandvik Coromant is the global market leader in machining and has a long track record of developing the industrial sector both in Sweden and internationally. It is incredibly inspiring that the company has chosen to take the next step of the journey with us. This is a really impressive example of how digitalization creates new business opportunities for a company to evolve and become better and better at what it does every day," summarizes Hélène Barnekow, CEO of Microsoft Sweden.

The new joint venture between Sandvik Coromant and Microsoft was launched in the first quarter of 2020 with activities in Sweden and other countries.
