With the G400, the Esslingen-based turning machine manufacturer Index is presenting a complete machining center that is suitable for parts up to 1,600 / 2,300 mm long. In contrast to its sister machine G420, developed in 2019, whose upper tool carrier is designed as a motorized milling spindle with a large tool magazine, the G400 has a VDI-40 turret with twelve stations and a quill that enables a Y-stroke of plus/minus 100 mm. In addition to integrated handling units, the iXcenter robot cell has recently become available for the G400 and other machines of this size. It can be used not only for loading and unloading large, heavy workpieces, but also for upstream and downstream tasks.
