Drills for steel processing
Prevent oscillating movements with three-edged drill bit
Mapal has developed the three-edged Tritan-Drill-Steel drill. According to the manufacturer, this achieves higher feed rates.
Until now, double-edged drills with a flat cross-cutting edge in the center were generally used for drilling operations in steel. The required roundness and cylindrical shape of the hole was often not guaranteed due to the oscillating movement along the cross cutting edge. In addition, both the cutting corners and the guide chamfers were subjected to high loads. According to the manufacturer, three individual cross-cutting segments, which securely center the Tritan-Drill-Steel, prevent oscillating movements with the new drill. The Tritan-Drill-Steel owes its robustness to the further developed main cutting edge shape. The resulting very stable cutting corners reduce the stress on the cutting edges. In addition, the coating is specially adapted to the machining of steel. This significantly increases the wear resistance when machining steel. The result is a very long tool life. Fast and reliable chip removal is achieved thanks to the shape of the main cutting edge, which ensures short, tightly rolled chips, and the precision-ground flutes. sw
