Countersink

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Reduce axial forces by 50%

The countersinks from the Mapal competence center in Winterlingen have a three-edged design and are extremely unevenly spaced.

The design reduces the axial forces by 50% and also reduces the forces acting perpendicular to the tool axis. This results in significantly less vibration on the tool during machining and consequently higher accuracy and better surface values. Screw and rivet hole connections have an immediately better contact, there is no settling under load.

The smooth running of the tools also reduces the load on the machine. This allows users to use Mapal countersinks at higher cutting speeds and achieve long tool lives. The company offers both an HSS version and solid carbide countersinks for machining demanding materials such as titanium, high-alloy cast iron, Inconel or CFRP.
