Arnold Umformtechnik: Conform screw
Under the motto "Every screw can be a climate protector", the Conform screw from Arnold Umformtechnik has been nominated in the metalworking category in the competition for Product of the Year 2024. Its use can save costs andCO2.
A concrete example demonstrates the approach: A special screw made of aluminum used in a customer component in turned production was to be revised both in terms of cost andCO2 emissions. A Conform-Next screw was developed as an alternative. Due to its design, it is suitable for use with larger diameters, longer components, more complex geometries and higher weights or heavier components. The part used so far has a volume of 8,733 mm3 and a weight of 23.58 g per piece and was traditionally produced by machining. A turned part blank with an initial volume of 25,630 mm³ and 69.2 g per piece was used for production. In order to become more sustainable here, the company switched to a formed part from the Conform product range, which means that the formed blank now only has a volume of 9,135 mm³ and 24.82 g per piece. This resulted in considerable material, cost andCO2 savings as virtually no waste was generated during production.
Conform parts replace cost-, resource- andCO2-intensive turned parts. They are produced using innovative cold forming technology in multiple forming stages with almost no waste, thus replacing conventional machining production processes without having to compromise on quality. The considerable reduction in material usage also results in a high cost advantage.
