Weiler sponsors high-tech components for student racing cars

The "High-Octane" racing team from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg thanked the Emskirchen-based mechanical engineering company Weiler for its support during the last racing season. Once again this year, Weiler Werkzeugmaschinen is manufacturing high-tech components for the student designers. With the new "FAUmax Lambda" racing car, the group will once again demonstrate their skills as developers and engineers, including at an international race at the Hockenheimring.

"As a family business with regional roots, we are happy to help the Erlangen student team realize their elaborately designed racing car," says Weiler Managing Director Michael Eisler, MBA. The company has been manufacturing complex and high-precision turned components for high-octane engines for several years, which the students are unable to produce themselves. The Franconian mechanical engineering company, which is the global market leader in training and further education with its robust and easy-to-operate precision lathes, has a long tradition of promoting young talent.

High-Octane has come up with something very special for the coming season. The group, which has around 65 members, wants to develop an autonomous racing car. The group is already working on developing the necessary software and plans to convert the current car for autonomous driving in the 2018/19 season. Weiler Managing Director Michael Eisler has already promised to support the project again in 2018. kp
