From November 18 to 21, 2025, the international electronics industry will meet in Munich for Productronica, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The trade fair for the development and production of electronics will focus on the topics of advanced packaging, power electronics and trustworthy microelectronics. As in previous years, "Semicon Europa" will be held in parallel at the Munich Exhibition Center. The conceptual sponsor of Productronica is the industry association VDMA Productronic.
50 years of Productronica in Munich
The trade fair is well booked for its anniversary: Over 1,600 companies from more than 50 countries will be presenting solutions and products for the electronics production of the future. Productronica occupies seven halls with an area of 80,000m². The Semicon Europa trade fair takes place at the same time.
"We are very pleased that we have seen a significant increase in the number of exhibitors," says Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Managing Director of Messe München. "Compared to the last event, the number of exhibitors has grown by 16 percent. This means that Productronica and Semicon Europa once again underline Munich's status as a top international location for electronics manufacturing."
Key topics productronica 2025
This year's productronica will focus on three main themes:
- Advanced Packaging
- Power electronics
- Securing the value chain through trustworthy microelectronics.
Special shows on the main themes
In addition to the exhibition area with its six subject areas PCB& EMS, SMT, Cables, Coils & Hybrids, Semiconductor as well as Future Production and Overall Production Support, the supporting program of Productronica also focuses on the three main themes.
VDMA Productronic special show
Together with eight exhibitors, the VDMA Productronic special show (Hall B2, Stand 461) will present exhibits and live demonstrations on chip development, advanced packaging, power electronics for the drive concept of electromobility and electric aviation. The highlights of the special area will include an aircraft with an electric drive. Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences will also be presenting the "skills4chips" project and the national training academy "Microtec Academy" founded as a result. The PhoenixD Cluster of Excellence for optical technologies is also taking part in the special area. Schweizer Electronic will be presenting the printed circuit board of the future as part of the special show.
Autonomous driving
Another aspect of the VDMA special show will be autonomous driving. The Volkswagen test vehicle ID Buzz, part of the Fraunhofer IDMT joint project "KI4BoardNet", will provide insights into multisensory solutions that improve the experience and safety in the vehicle. These include voice interactions between humans and vehicles as well as AI-based processes for acoustic monitoring of the vehicle's status.
Demonstration of printed circuit board production
At Fraunhofer IZM's Future Packaging Live production line (Hall B2, Stand 261), 21 companies will be demonstrating all the steps involved in PCB production over an area of 360 m² in order to visualize the current possibilities of modern technologies and processes in this area. These include aspects such as board marking or laser depaneling vs. panel milling. The real laboratory also records the actual consumption values of the production line. This allows visitors to follow the CO2 footprint of assembly production live.
Further live demonstrations will be provided by the established supporting program elements Event Stage Cleanroom and the IPC Hand Soldering Competition. The Cleanroom Event Stage (Hall B2, Stand 358), organized by mycleanroom, will show trade visitors what the cleanroom of tomorrow will look like and how high-tech, ergonomics and flexibility will interact in controlled environments in microelectronics production in the future.
World champion in hand soldering
In cooperation with the Global Electronic Association, Productronica will once again determine the world champion in hand soldering this year. The qualifications will take place on the first two days of the trade fair in Hall A1, Stand 321. The final decision for the world championship title will be made on Friday, November 21. All participants will have 60 minutes to assemble a complex printed circuit board in accordance with IPC-A-610 Class 3 criteria.
Expert forums on the electronics production of the future
More than 70 presentations, roundtables and discussion panels on the three stages Productronica Forum, Innovation Forum and PCB & EMS Marketplace will cover current and future topics in electronics manufacturing.
Two discussion rounds in the Innovation Forum will address key issues:
On November 19 at 1:15 p.m., "Microelectronics in security-relevant applications - what measures are necessary for security along the supply chain?" will be discussed.
Using concrete examples and experiences, the focus will be on the importance of safe electronics and their significance for European mechanical engineering.
On November 20 at 10:15 a.m., a panel of experts will discuss "What opportunities are there for mechanical engineering through innovative applications in electromobility?".
The focus is on the requirements of new power electronics components and the transfer of technology into industrial practice.
Productronica Innovation Award 2025
The Productronica Innovation Award will be presented for the sixth time during the trade fair. In the six categories PCB & EMS, SMT, Inspection & Quality, Semiconductors, Cables, Coils & Hybrids and Future Markets, the award recognizes particularly innovative new products and manufacturing processes.
A total of 79 entries were submitted. The winners will be announced on the first day of the trade fair during the exhibitor evening.
