New Chairman of the Measurement and Automation Technology Association

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Michael Weyrich took over as Chairman of the VDI/VDE Society for Measurement and Automation Technology (GMA) on January 1. He succeeds Dr.-Ing. Atilla Bilgic, who was Chairman of the GMA from 2018 to 2021.

Weyrich is looking forward to his work as Chairman: "I think it is important to solve the problems of our time with enthusiasm for technology. With IT and artificial intelligence, measurement and automation technology can change industrial production in order to establish a circular economy in terms of sustainability."

He is particularly keen to use GMA to significantly influence the topics of digitalization and AI in order to intensify new ideas, future trends and innovations in measurement and automation technology. He also wants to promote networking between industry and science. The topic of securing young talent for the GMA is also on the agenda. The aim is to inspire young people, promote women and integrate specialists of foreign origin.

Michael Weyrich has been involved in the GMA on a voluntary basis for many years. In addition to his work on the GMA Board and his involvement in the Interdisciplinary Committee for Digital Transformation, he is also Chairman of the Technical Committee "Testing Networked Systems for Industry 4.0" and thus a member of the Advisory Board of the "Digital Transformation" department.

Michael Weyrich received his doctorate from the European Center for Mechatronics at RWTH Aachen University in 1999. After working in industry at Daimler and Siemens, he moved to North Rhine-Westphalia in 2009 and became Professor of Automation in Manufacturing and a member of the board of the Center for Sensor Systems. Since 2013, he has been Director of the Institute for Automation Technology and Software Systems at the University of Stuttgart.
