Production expanded and modernized
Liebherr opens new hydraulic cylinder plant in Oberopfingen
After around three years of construction and relocation, Liebherr-Components Kirchdorf GmbH has put its new hydraulic cylinder plant in Oberopfingen (Germany) into operation. Three hall complexes and two administration buildings extend the area by around 46,000 square meters. With the completion, mechanical production is now also located at the Oberopfingen site - previously it was in Kirchdorf an der Iller.
"This step means that all areas of the company are now in one place, creating the conditions for greater efficiency and optimum supply. At the same time, capacities for further growth are being created in the hydraulic excavator plant," explains the company.
Production and investments
The transfer of mechanical production during ongoing production was particularly challenging. Following the move, 33 production machines are now in their new location, supplemented by around 20 new systems. The new production and administration area increases the plant by 46,000 square meters.
"We are delighted that, after around seven years in which we had to overcome the challenges of two locations, we not only have our entire workforce under one roof, but can also take the opportunity to position ourselves properly for the future," says Ulrich Hammerle, Managing Director for Production and Technology.
Highlights of the new site include the highly automated sawing center and the central cooling lubricant supply for cutting machines. The aim is to work more efficiently and reduce throughput times.
Sustainability in new buildings
The plant is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO50001 and uses a holistic energy management system. Waste heat insulation, heat pump technology and its own PV system with 1,768 solar panels supply the majority of its own electricity requirements.
A heat recovery system uses the production heat for hall air conditioning, and a modern evaporation system treats used water to reduce the amount of waste water. Liebherr is thus focusing on energy efficiency and resource conservation.
Grand opening of the hydraulic cylinder plant in Oberopfingen
In November 2025, the new building was inaugurated by the Liebherr family in the presence of the mayor and the head of the village. "This project would not have been possible without the commitment of our employees and thorough project organization. Thanks to this joint effort, the move went very well in retrospect," says Thomas Sonntag, Managing Director for Administration and Sales.
Following the move, the plant in Oberopfingen employs around 550 people. "We can now supply our customers and partners in the best possible way and expand our product range at the same time." The new building sends out a strong signal for the region and the future of component production.
